SteamFest
SteamFest is a collaborative event between the Billings Depot, Billings Library Foundation, Wise Wonders Children’s Museum and SCRaP. For 2019, we’re excited to announce the event will double in size and become a true STEAM education event for children in Billings. Kids will participate in activities and experiments across all five learning categories: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM), created by our four primary organizers and our new community partners ExxonMobil, STEM Billings, MSUB Math Circle, the StarLab from Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming, Home Science Tools and Billings Works.
STEM is an educational curriculum that combines science, technology, engineering, and math. It is meant to be a comprehensive approach; instead of teaching each subject separately, educators aim to incorporate some or all elements of STEM into each project. STEAM takes it a step further by adding art to the mix.
SteamFest is a 3-hour event allowing kids to participate in all activities or focus on the one that really inspires them the most. There is no time limit for each activity and the open floor plan lets kids explore and discover in their own way.
One side of the Depot is dedicated entirely to the StarLab and astronomy activities by the Girl Scouts. The other side will feature robots, math, science experiments, 3D printing, augmented reality, engineering, art and more.
Tickets are $15 per child before August 30 and $18 per child after. Adults and children under 1 year are free. Children registered before August 30 will receive a free SteamFest t-shirt. Tickets can be purchased on BillingsDepot.org beginning July 26, 2019.
- All funds raised support the four organizing nonprofits in their pursuit to make Yellowstone County a great place to work, live and play.
